Echo Grid: ITE Workshop

November 2020 Institute of Technical Education (Central)

The Echo Grid was a commission by ITE to conduct a workshop for their Electrical Engineering students, engaging their skills to collaborate and develop a kinetic artwork. We put forth a design of an automata that could be triggered in sequence, and worked with the students in explaining how it worked and assembling the sculpture.

The final assembled pieces were then attached to the furniture that was built to suspend them. The automata would spin and fidget in place when they were triggered by motion in the proximity. The small movements would create soft clicks and clatters in the quiet environment where it is displayed, charming passers-by with its personality.
